Attribution is the process of connecting a result (a click, signup, deposit, or other conversion) to the specific participant, creator, or channel that caused it. Attribution is the technical foundation of outcome-based rewards: without it, platforms can only pay for activity volume rather than results.
In practice attribution runs on trackable links, redirect logging, and postbacks from the destination product. A participant shares a link, a visitor arrives carrying that identifier, and when the visitor later completes a defined action the destination reports it back. The identifier is what turns an anonymous signup into a credited one.
Attribution quality sets the ceiling on what a campaign can reward. Where it is weak or absent, a project is left paying for posts and impressions and hoping they worked. Where it is strong, budget follows the participants who actually moved the numbers, and a conversion can be priced instead of guessed at.
