Reputation markets

Reputation markets are systems that score participants’ credibility or influence over time and attach consequences to that score, such as access, multipliers, or rewards. Reputation scoring is often combined with attention or outcome metrics to weight rewards toward accounts with established track records and away from fresh or suspicious ones.

The consequence is what makes it a market rather than a badge. When a score gates entry to campaigns or multiplies what activity pays, it acquires real value, and participants begin managing it as an asset.

That value cuts in two directions. Reputation raises the cost of running throwaway accounts, which is why it pairs well with bot filtering. It also entrenches whoever scored well early, so platforms that weight it heavily have to leave a route for genuine newcomers to earn standing.
